Claiming “a clear and genuine victory,” a group of 25 student protesters ended their occupation of Dean’s Row shortly after waking up on its floor Thursday morning.
The stand against soaring tuition, which began Wednesday as part of a national day of action, was to end Friday at 4:30 p.m.
But after most of the students’ demands were met in a series of productive talks with university president Fred Gilbert, the occupation was called off in its 20th hour.
“We discussed it as a group and we agreed that the university had answered us to the best they can, said student union president Jeremy Salter. “We wanted to honour our part of the deal and leave.”
